The 10" steel reinforced poured concrete basement walls would be waterproof on their own, however, they were water proofed with a spray-on rubber substance and then protected with sheets of styrofoam before dirt was back-filled on them.

Many loads of gravel were laid down as the foundation for the driveway to provide for longer life of the concrete and better drainage. That is a lot of concrete and we want it to stay put.
6 inches of gravel was placed under the steel reinforced basement slab to allow for better drainage and a dryer basement.
The steel reinforced foundation has 12 inch diameter concrete pilings extending 3 feet below the footing that are spaced every 6-8 feet under every load bearing wall.
Commercial garage doors are both equipped with a light beam to detect when something is under the door and it will not close. This feature was not available when we build the house and the door openers were replaced in 1995 to incorporate this feature. Both garage doors are commercial over size with double steel insulated construction.
