March 17, 2011 marked our 7th year in practice.  In just 7 years we have built a new building, gone from 4 to 12 team members, (see pictures below; they do need to be updated) added a clinical research coordinator, (then added another clinical research coordinator) added a physician extender, and even acquired the land next door for a larger office and additional provider one day.  In other words, we are growing.  We are a very high tech office with EHR (no paper charts) and electronic order entry and results reporting from LabCorp.  In 2007 we added an Internet portal so patients can pre-register, update demographics, request appointments, receive lab results, and do other electronic communications over the Internet.  We will implement any new technology that helps us better serve our patients.

We are not currently looking for a new team member. If you want to be considered the next time our practice grows submit your resume now and we will keep it on file for future consideration. That way you will be among the first to be considered.

Having said all that, you would guess our employees must be comfortable with computer, and you are right.  However, it is even more important that our stars be friendly, cooperative, motivated, and able to take on new responsibilities.  We work as a team and support each other.  It takes a very special person to become one of our stars.  Besides very competitive pay scales, we offer:

Some of us are capable of doing multiple jobs in the office and also fill-in as needed.  Our nurses rotate between providers and the support nurse desk.  Some of us are not doing the job we were initially hired to do; the point is that our stars needs to be flexible. 

Besides becoming an expert in diabetes, our clinical stars learn to:

•  Perform bone density testing
•  Conduct continuous glucose monitors
•  Administer IV Boniva treatments
•  Perform pulmonary function tests
•  Perform thyroid ultrasounds
•  Blood drawing
•  Use CLIA waived lab equipment
•  Perform thyroid uptakes
•  Assist with thyroid nodule aspirations
•  Patient education
•  Help with clinical research studies

Dr. Lucas is always listening.  We all have to work very hard to keep up with her.

Kristin Gainey Ferree, FNP (left) is Dr. Lucas assistant and co-provider.  Kristin is a native of Morehead City and earned her BSN, Masters, and FNP at East Carolina University.  We are very lucky Kristin has chosen to work with our team.   Ashley Thorne (right) is one of our primary nurses.  Ashley has a BA in English from UNC-W and has been with DEC since April 2009.  Ashley has worked in every departments and is a valued member of the team.

	Denise and Caitlin kept the office in stitches for part of 2006 & 2007 until  (Caitlin Hutchison, CMA) (left) moved back home to Idaho.   Caitlin's husband got out of the Marines and they returned to Idaho.  We learned a lot from her.  She is always willing to help, could do most of the jobs around the office, and is really missed.  Denise Vetter, JAS (left bottom) joined DEC in May 2006.  She can do so many things at once and make it look easy.  If we have a face for the practice, it is Denise.  She is a constant steadying force at the front desk.  If things get hectic, we can rely on Denise to help everyone simmer down now.  Whenever she is out for a day we all suffer. Aimee Glancy, RN (right) joined DEC in November 2007.  Aimee was initially one of our primary nurses. When one of the clinical research coordinators went out on maternity leave Aimee filled in for the research department.  Surprise Aimee!  You are now in the research department!

This is Caitlin Hutchison (left) with the phone in hand.  She was a take no prisoners kind of gal.  She has been known to call the commander at Cherry Point Naval Hospital if we don't get the records in time.  OK - Caitlin moved back to Idaho and left us several years back, but I love this picture.  I can't keep Caitlin, but the picture stays.   Lisa Coleman (right) is our administrative coordinator.  If I had to have a boss, I would want it to be Lisa.  She handles all our insurance processing and oversees the front desk operations.  She can reboot the servers and order lunch at the same time.  She is our corporate executive.  Lisa has been with us since Dr. Lucas set up her own practice in March 2004.

Sheila Mann, MA (left) has been with Dr. Lucas since we moved back to North Carolina in 2000.  She is employee #2 (Lucas was first).   Sheila is one of our primary nurses.  We would be lost without Sheila. Aimee Glancy, RN (not pictured yet) joined the team in December 2007 as one of our primary nurses.  Aimee came to us from Carteret General Hospital.  She is learning quickly and proving very helpful supporting our providers and assisting the patients.   I will post pictures of Aimee as soon as possible.

Terri Medlin, RN (left) joined DEC in September 2009 as one of our primary nurses.  When the research department expanded she became a clinical research coordinator.  Terri was in the US Coast Guard for a number of years and also worked for several hospitals before becoming a valued member of our team.  Weatherly Montgomery (right) earned her BS in education from ECU and taught dance for a number of years before joining DEC in December 2007.  It was a lucky day for our practice when Weatherly became part of our ohana.   Weatherly is now one of our primary nurses and a certified insulin pump trainer too.

I count my blessing everyday to have such a talented team of stars in constellation.
