March 17, 2012 marked our 8th year in practice. In just 8 years we have built a new building, gone from 4 to 14 team members, (see pictures below; they do need to be updated in a big way. After we fill the current opening.) added a clinical research coordinator, (then added another clinical research coordinator) added a physician extender, and even acquired the land next door for a larger office and additional provider one day. We started with one clinical research coordinator, now we are staffing up to 5 clinical research coordinators. In other words, we are growing. We are a very high tech office with EHR (no paper charts) and electronic order entry and results reporting from LabCorp. In 2007 we added an Internet portal so patients can pre-register, update demographics, request appointments, receive lab results, and do other electronic communications over the Internet. Later this year the patient portal will undergo a significant upgrade. We will implement any new technology that helps us better serve our patients.

We are not currently looking for a new team member. If you want to be considered the next time our practice grows submit your resume now and we will keep it on file for future consideration. That way you will be among the first to be considered.
Having said all that, you would guess our employees must be comfortable with computers, and you are right. However, it is even more important that our stars be friendly, cooperative, motivated, and able to take on new responsibilities. We work as a team and support each other. It takes a very special person to become one of our stars. Besides very competitive pay scales, we offer:
Some of us are capable of doing multiple jobs in the office and also fill-in as needed. Our clinical staff rotate between providers and the support desk. Some of us are not doing the job we were initially hired to do; the point is that our stars needs to be flexible.
Besides becoming an expert in diabetes, our clinical stars learn to:

Dr. Lucas is always listening. We all have to work very
hard to keep up with her.

Kristin Gainey Ferree, FNP (left) is Dr. Lucas' assistant and
co-provider. Kristin is a native of Morehead City and earned
her BSN, Masters, and FNP at East Carolina University. We are
very lucky Kristin has chosen to work with our team.
Weatherly Montgomery (right) earned her BS in education from ECU and taught dance for a number of years before joining DEC in December 2007. It was a lucky day for our practice when Weatherly became part of our o'hana. Weatherly is now one of our primary clinical staff and a certified insulin pump trainer too. We are indeed very lucky. |

Denise and Caitlin kept the office in stitches for
part of 2006 & 2007 until (Caitlin Hutchison, CMA) (left)
moved back home to Idaho. Caitlin's husband got out of
the Marines and they returned to Idaho. We learned a lot from
her. She is always willing to help, could do most of the jobs
around the office, and is really missed. Denise Vetter, JAS (left bottom) joined DEC in May 2006. She can do so many things at once and make it look easy. If we have a face for the practice, it is Denise. She is a constant steadying force at the front desk. If things get hectic, we can rely on Denise to help everyone simmer down now; Denise is one of our leaders. Whenever she is out for a day we all suffer. |

| Above (left to right) is Denise, Veronica Barganier, and Laura Rickheim. Veronica joined DEC in June 2012. She is from Arkansas and is in North Carolina because her husband is stationed here with the Marines. Veronica earned her BA in business from the university of Arkansas at Little Rock. She performs double duty as an administrative assistant and Medical assistant. Veronica is awesome. Laura Joined DEC in May 2012. She is from Michigan and is also in North Carolina because her husband is stationed here. Laura earned her BS in accounting at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Besides being one of our administrative assistants, Laura is our technology expert and special assistant to the practice administrator. Laura is Fabulous. |

This is Caitlin Hutchison (left) with the phone in hand.
She was a take no prisoners kind of gal. She has been known to
call the commander at Cherry Point Naval Hospital if we don't get
the records in time. OK - Caitlin moved back to Idaho and left
us several years back, but I love this picture. I can't keep
Caitlin, but the picture stays. Lisa Coleman (right) is our administrative coordinator. If I had to have a boss, I would want it to be Lisa. She handles all our insurance processing and oversees the front desk operations. She can reboot the servers and order lunch at the same time. She is our corporate executive. Lisa has been with us since Dr. Lucas set up her own practice in March 2004. |

Above and to the right (in the dark blue Michigan jersey) is Danielle Martin. Danielle joined the DEC o'hana in October 2011. Danielle has a BA in Biology from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Danielle started as an administrative assistant working at the front desk. We like to train team members to help in as many aspects of the practice as possible, so Danielle began helping the primary clinical staff when she was needed. Then Danielle moved completely to the clinical side of the practice. In the summer of 2012 Danielle moved within the organization again; she is now one of our clinical research coordinators. She has come so far so fast. We are so proud of Danielle.

Not Pictured (only because I have been too busy) is Adelle Fournier. Adelle has a BA in Communications from UNC-Charlotte. Adelle joined DEC in late 2011 as a clinical research assistant. The research department is growing so fast that we have given Adelle some research projects to handle on her own!!

I count my blessing everyday to have such a talented team of
stars in constellation. To the left is Terri, Kim, Dr. Lucas, Sabrina, Seth, Lisa, Michele, Sheila, & Denise aboard the Disney Wonder December 2007. Weatherly, Aimee, Terri... have since just joined the team. Unfortunately life changes seems to always bring changes to our team; only 4 of us are still on the DEC team today. However, our short cruise on the Disney Wonder was the first office trip. Oh, it has grown since then. Seth Medlin, Kahuna (right) |

Here is a picture of the team in the fall of 2009 as we are
dreaming of our Alaskan vacation coming up in July 2010. OK -
we are not really in Alaska when this picture was taken.
CLICK HERE OR ON THE PICTURE TO SEE WHERE THIS PICTURE WAS REALLY
TAKEN. The other pictures on this page need some updating. The Kahuna will get to it ASAP. Pictures are (top row left to right) Michele Barts, Sheila Mann, Sabrina Boyte, Seth Medlin, Dr. Jean Lucas, Terri Sutton, & Denise Vetter [Michele left DEC in March 2010 to stay home with her new baby. Sabrina left DEC the end of August 2010 to work with another office.) (bottom row left to right) Weatherly Montgomery, Aimee Glancy, Kim Locklear, Lisa Coleman, Terri Medlin, & Ashley Thorne.
